
Physician Coder – Transplant Surgery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate and precisely code profee Transplant Surgery cases to optimize reimbursement promptly.
• Assess and accurately code E/M visits, office procedures, and surgical interventions.
• Capable of working autonomously and investigating coding scenarios.
• The coder is tasked with achieving our daily production targets and maintaining a quality goal of consistently averaging a 95% accuracy rate.
• Participate in conference calls as needed to provide insights and feedback.
• Collaborate with leadership regarding coding or documentation issues and trends.
• Keep updated on all coding guidelines (including specialty-specific guidelines) and uphold credentials as necessary.
• Engage in coding department meetings and educational sessions.
• Willingness to broaden coding expertise into other Plastic Surgery subspecialties or different specialties altogether.
• Uphold confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
• High School diploma is mandatory.
• An Associate or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Successful completion of at least one AHIMA or AAPC-certified program with the attainment of the corresponding professional credential (e.g., CCS-P, CPC, or another applicable AAPC stand-alone credential), which must be current and in good standing. The CPC-A is not acceptable.
• A minimum of 5 years of physician coding experience (recent hands-on production) in the Transplant Surgery specialty, including kidney and/or liver transplantation and other solid organ transplant services.
• Experience should encompass living and deceased donor procedures, organ procurement, and backbench (or back-table) preparation, as well as complex vascular and biliary reconstruction, transplant-related reoperations, management of transplant complications, including E/M leveling and office procedures.
• Must possess proficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, CPT coding and guidelines as established by the AMA, ICD-10-CM coding and guidelines, modifiers, surgical techniques, and Medicare (CMS/MAC) and Medicaid billing policies for professional services.
• Additional skills required: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, and electronic healthcare record information and billing systems.
• Experience with Google Workspace is preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience working remotely is preferred but not mandatory.
• Auditing experience is considered a PLUS.
• Billing (denials) experience is a PLUS.
• Epic experience is a PLUS.
