Personal Financial Educator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Personal Financial Educators (PFEs) offer individualized consultation, education, training, and information referral services as part of the Personal Financial Management (PFM) Program within the Fleet and Family Support Program (FFSP).

• PFEs deliver support through various methods, including virtual services such as webinars, video calls, emails, and phone consultations, as well as in-person interactions.

• In-person services are provided through mobile training teams and virtual delivery to service members and their families in remote locations worldwide and aboard Navy ships, whether in port, at sea, or in foreign countries.

• Key financial readiness topics covered include, but are not limited to, car buying, basic budgeting, credit management, debt reduction, consumer awareness, insurance, savings and investments, and retirement planning.

• PFEs work collaboratively with FFSP stakeholders to plan, schedule, and implement training services, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of educational programs and services to service members and their families.

• They coordinate, promote, and conduct a range of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops.

• PFEs respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars for youth and teens as part of on-base education initiatives.

• They provide initial and refresher training for Command Financial Specialists (CFS).

• PFEs assist Command Financial Specialists in creating General Military Training (GMT) on topics related to Personal Financial Management.

• They offer in-person support aboard Navy ships during Shipboard events and Return and Reunions (R&R).

• PFEs deliver personalized financial counseling and assistance to service members and their families.

• They provide consumers with information and help in managing consumer complaints.

• All information and referral services, along with one-on-one and group education services, must be documented in the government’s system of record.

• PFEs utilize various technological tools (collaboration platforms, video conferencing software, project management tools) to communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide virtual services.

• They perform basic troubleshooting when technology issues arise.

• PFEs maintain current knowledge in personal finance and financial counseling.

• They support marketing and outreach efforts to raise awareness and encourage the use of program services, along with other assigned duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must reside in Italy or Spain.

• The contract stipulates that candidates for all positions outside of the United States must either hold existing Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) status or be able to independently obtain SOFA status.

• A bachelor's degree OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree is required to qualify as a personal financial management counselor.

• Must have and maintain national certification as an Accredited Financial Counselor.

• Individuals without the Accredited Financial Counselor designation may still be considered based on work experience, with the expectation to obtain the certification within 12 months of hire.

• A minimum of two years of experience in providing financial education and training, along with one-on-one financial counseling, is necessary.

• Experience in presenting and facilitating training for both large and small groups in financial management is essential.

• Familiarity with various forms of digital technology to conduct virtual training is required.

• Experience providing one-on-one consultations with varying levels of complexity is needed.

• Knowledge of developing and implementing needs assessment tools (e.g., surveys) is required.

• Understanding of military life and the challenges faced by military personnel is essential.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with Command Financial Specialists is necessary.

• A comprehensive understanding of the personal financial management issues affecting service members and their families, along with the capability to assist them through individual support or training in seminars, workshops, or appropriate referrals, is required.

• Proficiency in various technological tools to facilitate virtual service delivery, communication, and collaboration is essential.

• Knowledge of social services and/or community resources is important.

• Familiarity with adult education principles and the development of training curricula based on the adult learning model is required.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities is essential.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills are a must.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software is required, along with the ability to prepare management reports and provide information using the software.

• Must be able to meet naval shipboard requirements if deployed on a Navy ship.
