
Payroll and Compliance Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Oversee payroll processing for designated clients, ensuring that all transactions are executed accurately, in a timely manner, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Analyze and reconcile payroll data, address discrepancies, and carry out month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll functions.
• Create payroll reports and furnish records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for client audits and business requirements.
• Act as a trusted advisor on payroll tax compliance, wage and hour legislation, internal controls, and best practices in payroll administration.
• Address payroll-related inquiries from clients, employees, and stakeholders, providing prompt and accurate solutions.
• Lead or assist in payroll and HRIS implementations, system enhancements, vendor management, and initiatives for process improvement.
• Function as the main point of contact between clients and payroll technology vendors, delivering end-user support and resolving system-related issues.
• Identify opportunities to optimize payroll processes, enhance accuracy, boost efficiency, and elevate the overall client experience.
• Establish and nurture strong client relationships by comprehending business goals and offering proactive, value-added assistance.
• Collaborate with HR Consulting and other internal teams to enhance workflows, bolster client retention, and guarantee consistent service delivery.
• Stay informed about payroll regulations, technological advancements, and industry best practices.
• Safeguard confidential payroll, employee, and client data while exercising appropriate discretion and professional judgment.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll administration, payroll tax compliance, or a related payroll consulting position.
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll processing, reconciliations, reporting, internal controls, payroll taxes, and wage and hour regulations.
• Experience in interpreting and applying federal, state, and local payroll laws and compliance standards.
• Experience managing payroll for multiple clients, business entities, or employee groups is preferred.
• Practical experience with payroll and HRIS platforms is required; familiarity with Rippling and Paylocity is preferred.
• Experience in supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades, or operational enhancements is preferred.
• Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving abilities with a talent for resolving complex payroll challenges.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the capability to clarify payroll and compliance topics effectively.
• A robust client service orientation with the ability to work autonomously and collaborate efficiently with internal teams and external partners.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology platforms.
• Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred, or a willingness to obtain certification.
