This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Oversee the Single IRB (sIRB) and Central IRB (cIRB) review processes.
• Provide guidance to investigators who rely on external IRBs in managing ancillary reviews and documentation.
• Offer expert regulatory advice to IRB administrators and OHRP leadership.
• Handle all IRB reliance agreements.
• Independently assess and approve reliance requests.
• Evaluate requests based on established criteria.
• Draft agreements using predefined templates.
• Liaise with non-WVU IRB personnel, researchers, and administrative offices to negotiate amendments.
• Review research-related incidents pertaining to reliance-specific studies.
• Coordinate agreements with other compliance and regulatory obligations.
• Provide regulatory consultation and advice to IRB staff and researchers.
• Create and update training materials for the research community.
• Oversee post-approval monitoring and educational activities.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a human research office or a research administration office supporting human research activities.
• Any equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience will be taken into consideration.
• Proficient with computers, including MS Word, Excel, internet browsers, and email.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing human subject research.
• Proven experience in managing, tracking, organizing, prioritizing, and documenting large volumes of complex tasks and information.
• Strong working knowledge of research procedures and terminology.
• Comprehensive understanding of operational requirements related to managing and implementing protocol processes.
• Demonstrated experience showcasing exceptional attention to detail.
• Knowledge of reliance agreement documents and systems (e.g., SMART IRB, IREx, Huron IRB Exchange, etc.).
• Outstanding oral and written communication abilities.
• Excellent organizational skills with the capability to prioritize tasks and meet office deadlines.
• Ability to evaluate institutional and federal criteria, apply them to various situations, and make decisions based on specific criteria.
