This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Assign diagnosis and procedure codes utilizing the relevant coding classification system for all episodes of care in the emergency department, same-day surgery, outpatient clinic, observation, inpatient OB/newborn hospital, and specialty clinic encounters, adhering to coding conventions, guidelines, and hospital policies.
• Evaluate ambiguous documentation to guarantee the accuracy of information and address identified discrepancies.
• Ensure adherence to official guidelines (ICD-10-CM, AHA Coding Clinic, AMA CPT Assistant and Guidelines), AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, and LifePoint Health Support Center (HSC) policies and procedures.
• Achieve and uphold a 95% accuracy rate on quality reviews as well as meet assigned productivity standards.
• Verify, edit, and/or input charges based on documentation or payer/billing requirements.
• Stay informed about applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that influence the coding domain.
• Adhere to coding workflows for service types, including addressing compliance reviews.
• Submit queries to physicians when clarification of documentation is necessary.
• Foster a collaborative working relationship with physicians, nurses, medical staff, and hospital employees to ensure that all work-related interactions are effective.
• Provide recommendations to the supervisor and implement and monitor outcomes as appropriate to support the overall objectives of the department.
• An associate degree in a health-related field is preferred.
• A minimum of one year of outpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital is preferred.
• Certification as a Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred.
