This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho.
• Execute comprehensive OSP engineering tasks encompassing estimation, analysis, design, and planning for copper and fiber optic cable networks, which include aerial, buried, and conduit systems.
• Create engineering designs for poles, conduit paths, and buried facilities, adhering to both company standards and industry regulations.
• Prepare and interpret engineering plans, drawings, loop loss designs, and technical documentation.
• Design and support network infrastructure for technologies such as FTTH, DSL, Metro-E, SONET, and various other telecom transport systems.
• Monitor project budgets and compare estimated costs to actual expenditures to ensure financial accountability.
• Conduct field data collection, measurements, and inspections to facilitate engineering design and construction planning.
• Prepare and compile permit packages for submission to local authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Maintain project documentation, records, and files, including property records and engineering reports.
• Perform quality control assessments and periodic inspections to guarantee engineering precision and project compliance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, municipalities, retail and wholesale providers, and other stakeholders to aid in project execution.
• Develop engineering work orders for both routine and complex OSP projects, including road relocations.
• Provide technical support concerning the installation of network equipment and its operational functionality.
• Proven experience in designing and engineering OSP telecom infrastructure for both fiber and copper networks.
• Strong grasp of OSP principles, engineering standards, and practices within the telecom industry.
• Experience in right-of-way acquisition, easements, and the permitting process.
• Ability to identify existing voice/data plant, electric utilities, and other infrastructure in both site plans and field settings.
• Experience in reviewing and conducting quality control on engineering work, including overseeing other OSP engineers (mandatory for Level III).
• Familiarity with COE/OSP work order procedures and telecom construction methodologies, particularly road move projects.
• Proficient with PC applications, engineering databases, and computer-aided design (CAD) systems.
• Understanding of telecom network systems such as FTTH, DSL, Metro-E, SONET, and fiber transport technologies.
• Knowledge of circuit design and functionality of network equipment.
• Experience collaborating with local telecom networks and municipalities.
• Familiarity with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and related engineering obligations.
• Must possess field engineering tools, including a measuring wheel, height stick, pull finder, and a laptop.
