This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +10 more states.
• Conduct design and cost assessments for the construction and enhancement of Clearwave Fiber's OSP facilities.
• Employ GIS-based field and drafting tools for operational tasks such as recording field notes and drafting documentation.
• Process permits and secure financial approvals for assigned projects.
• Assist senior engineers in project planning and schedule management, while identifying resource deficiencies.
• Create comprehensive OSP system designs for new projects and enhancements.
• Generate cost estimates, oversee project finances, and execute financial reconciliations.
• Keep detailed records of fiber project assignments and liaise with Facility Engineers.
• Assess new OSP products and designs for potential implementation.
• Aid in the formulation of the annual engineering budget.
• Oversee purchase orders and manage vendor invoices.
• Initiate OSP work orders for construction activities.
• Utilize CAD design software to develop fiber designs and prepare bills of materials.
• Anticipate service demands to formulate short, medium, and long-term plans.
• Provide mapping technicians with updates regarding current new development land parcels.
• Execute aerial plant engineering tasks, including make-ready and pole loading analysis.
• Perform engineering for OSP underground networks.
• Prepare permits related to Rights of Way, Railroads, and Departments of Transportation.
• Conduct quality control work in the field.
• Offer insights on best practices, permitting processes, construction techniques, and telecom products.
• Undertake additional related duties as assigned to ensure efficient departmental operations.
• Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in Outside Plant Engineering Design, Construction Management, or as an OSP Field Inspector.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver effective presentations to Supervisors and Managers.
• Capability to constructively escalate problems and concerns.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team of senior engineers and supervisors to devise solutions.
• Intermediate knowledge of outside plant engineering and field design methodologies.
• Intermediate understanding of telecom products and delivery mechanisms for external customers.
• Intermediate familiarity with the permitting process for city, county, DOT, and Railroad permits.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Intermediate understanding of purchase orders and vendor invoicing processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Visio, Excel, and Word.
• Intermediate knowledge of drafting software.
• Intermediate knowledge of 3GIS.
