Lead Mechanical Engineer, Methods and Tooling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Gathering information from site, Project Engineering Manager, logistics, and the Center of Excellence to create the synopsis (installation/maintenance sequence) and lashing (transport) drawings.

• Envisioning the erection and maintenance operations in accordance with procedures established by the site team, aiming to utilize standard tools as much as possible and adhere to EHS regulations.

• Conducting calculations and designing tools according to the CoE’s Design Practices, ensuring validation by the tooling principal engineer.

• Acting as the representative for the Tooling Center of Excellence (CoE) to the Project Team, including System Integrator, main project engineers from CoE, Supply Chain, and Construction & Commissioning.

• Coordinating within the Tooling CoE the calculations and design of the comprehensive list of tools identified during the synopsis phase, ensuring compliance with planning, cost, and safety requirements for the detailed transportation and erection sequence of the power plant.

• Designing specialized tools, including 3D models, calculation notes, fabrication drawings, and instruction manuals.

• Assessing the need for access on our machinery.

• Determining specific packing requirements and documenting them.

• Creating lifting drawings.

• Stamping the tooling design when necessary for our North American projects (US stamp required).

• Updating the synopsis Bill of Materials in the GE product life management system.

• Participating in the design of tools or components to ensure compliance with tooling requirements.

• Serving as the primary point of contact for the site team regarding any support requests.

• Coordinating synopsis tasks with subcontractors or technicians.

• Identifying standard tools available in the market.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience.

• Extensive experience (over 5 years) in mechanical design - US stamp is mandatory.

• Experience in designing lifting equipment and access platforms or substantial experience on site.

• Proficient knowledge of CAD and calculation methodologies.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for international interactions.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional and global teams.

• Strong interpersonal abilities, proven leadership qualities, and a positive demeanor.
