This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Evaluate identifications that automated detection systems are unable to resolve, linking verified vessel identities with sourced evidence and defined confidence levels.

• Examine identity manipulation and evasion tactics, including AIS gaps, GNSS and position spoofing, duplicated or borrowed MMSI, name and flag alterations, and vessel substitution.

• Analyze satellite and optical imagery and conduct research using vessel photo databases, registries, ownership documentation, port-state and terminal records, classification and insurance sources, and public reports.

• Reconstruct the pattern of life and ownership history of vessels over time.

• Create structured identification records with traceable provenance, clearly articulated confidence levels, and precise reporting language.

• Provide labeled ground truth and edge cases to the data science team, assisting in the definition of automation priorities.

• Maintain sourcing and data integrity standards, ensuring records are accurate, up-to-date, and reliable.

• Enhance Kpler’s unified vessel records for analysts, compliance teams, and government entities.

• Contribute to machine-learning model enhancements by generating dependable labeled ground truth.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in intelligence, investigations, maritime analysis, or related OSINT research.

• Proficient understanding of vessel types and specifications, AIS, registries, flag and ownership structures, and shipping operations.

• Knowledge of OSINT tradecraft, including source discovery and evaluation, cross-referencing independent sources, and managing uncertainty/provenance.

• Capability to interpret satellite and optical imagery; experience with SAR is a plus.

• Detail-oriented in evidence-based documentation and articulate written assessments.

• Familiarity with sanctions, trade compliance, and evasion typologies is desirable.

• Experience in contributing labeled data or ground truth to machine-learning processes is advantageous.

• Experience with GIS and geospatial tools is preferred.

• Comfort with handling large datasets is desirable.

• Proficiency in additional languages relevant to major shipping and registry jurisdictions is a plus.

• A rigorous, evidence-based approach with strong corroboration standards.

• Ability to make and justify decisions in ambiguous situations.

• Structured, methodical investigation prioritization under time constraints.

• Excellent written communication skills for engaging with analysts, compliance teams, and senior stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international relations, security or intelligence studies, maritime studies, geography, data, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
