This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more state.
• Deliver market insights regarding bolt-on prospects, competitive dynamics, and valuation context within the subsector.
• Facilitate connections with founders, operating principals, and senior executives from the existing network.
• Evaluate confidential information memoranda and management presentations for relevance to operational fit and risk within the sector.
• Analyze customer contracts, safety and compliance records, capacity status, and equipment inventory during the due diligence process.
• Differentiate between contracted revenue and cyclical or spot revenue, rigorously testing the quality of revenue.
• Engage in pitches to private equity sponsors and strategic acquirers when pertinent to the subsector and operational expertise.
• Offer operational due diligence insights on target firms.
• Counsel the Fireclay team on positioning and messaging for sponsor outreach and sourcing initiatives.
• Proven senior operational experience as Division President, General Manager, COO, CEO, VP/SVP of Operations, Chief Commercial Officer, VP of Capacity or Carrier Sales, Chief Credit Officer/Head of Underwriting, or Head of Corporate Development.
• A minimum of fifteen years in the transportation and logistics industry across various modes, service lines, or regions.
• Solid understanding of relevant regulatory requirements, including FMCSA authority and safety ratings, CSA scores, hours of service, ELD, hazmat regulations, worker classification, Carmack Amendment cargo liability, and pertinent FMC, CBP, customs, and Surface Transportation Board requirements.
• Direct experience with key sector value drivers such as net revenue margin, contract versus spot revenue mix, customer and lane concentration, equipment utilization, cost per mile, driver and owner-operator turnover, carrier procurement, capacity sourcing, advance rates, reserves, dilution, DSO, and credit loss experiences.
• Acquainted with ownership structures including founder/family-owned businesses, ESOPs, agent and owner-operator models, strategic carve-outs, and sponsor-backed rollups.
• Established network of founders, operating principals, senior executives, and private equity professionals within the subsector.
• Comfortable representing Fireclay to private equity sponsors, strategic acquirers, and target management.
• Ability to handle nonpublic information and competitive intelligence with discretion.
• Open to working on a flexible, per-engagement basis without fixed hours or commitments.
