Ontology Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develops and sustains logical, semantically rich, and scalable ontologies that define and organize knowledge within the K-12 education sector and HMH products.

• Facilitates integration between the ontology management system and source data management repositories, which includes the development of triple stores and conducting investigations through SPARQL queries.

• Maintains the accuracy and consistency of ontological structures by conducting regular quality checks and making updates as necessary.

• Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to comprehend their information requirements and deliver ontological solutions.

• Produces thorough documentation for ontologies and knowledge graphs.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree in philosophy, computer science, information science, or a quantitative field, or equivalent experience.

• Expertise in ontology modeling languages such as RDF, OWL, or SHACL, as well as vocabularies like SKOS.

• Knowledge of query languages such as SQL and SPARQL, or other property graph query languages like Gremlin and openCypher.

• Experience in semantic data integration and proficiency with graph databases/triplestores.

• Ability to integrate diverse data sets into a unified vocabulary and to write effective queries for production environments.

• Practical experience with high-level programming and scripting languages, including Python, R, and Java.

• Strong software engineering practices applied to semantic and analytical assets: git, pull requests/code review, and test/validation methodologies.
