
Online Crisis Counselor I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Respond to incoming chats and texts, offering crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and supportive counseling to clients experiencing emotional distress or at risk of suicide.
• Perform safety assessments in accordance with agency policies, funding, accreditation, and Lifeline Best Practices.
• Oversee client interactions to ensure effective and suitable support.
• Initiate police intervention procedures when a Visitor is in immediate danger.
• Comply with state and federal legal regulations, including HIPAA confidentiality and mandated reporting (e.g., CPS, APS, Tarasoff Duty to Warn).
• Work collaboratively with the online crisis counselor team and Shift Leads on intricate cases.
• Consult with Shift Leads and Master’s level Crisis Shift Managers on compliance matters, including mandatory reporting, HIPAA, and imminent risk assessments.
• Utilize Microsoft Teams to communicate with remote staff and 988 Crisis Shift Leads.
• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to improve clinical skills and encourage professional growth.
• Mentor and coach new staff members.
• Foster an environment that prioritizes integrity, respect, and accountability.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a social science/behavioral health or related field along with one (1) year of experience in a mental health or similar field.
• Obtaining Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration within 30 days of employment, or its equivalent, is mandatory and must remain active throughout employment.
• Successful completion of a typing test with a minimum score of 35 WPM.
• Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
• Courteous, empathetic, and professional demeanor.
• Expertise in Motivational Interviewing and active listening techniques.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and skills in information gathering.
• Excellent communication skills to relay information clearly and effectively.
• Capability to multitask, including simultaneous talking and typing.
• Proficient in documenting notes in electronic medical records.
