On-Call Archaeological Field Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Plan and facilitate cultural resource projects across New Mexico, which includes coordinating fieldwork, managing field data, preparing and supporting deliverables, liaising with agencies, and engaging in various activities related to cultural resources projects.

• Conduct literature reviews prior to fieldwork.

• Perform background and archival research.

• Execute Class III (intensive pedestrian) cultural resources inventories.

• Document archaeological sites and evaluate the NRHP eligibility of IOs/IFs.

• Assess and manage field data collected by others.

• Prepare deliverables and make revisions as necessary.

• Conduct archaeological monitoring during diverse construction activities.

• Complete daily monitoring and/or inspection forms.

• Draft comprehensive monitoring reports.

• Collaborate with state and federal agencies.

• Ensure consistent and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

• Actively participate in and align with the safety culture and employee ownership principles of Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group.

• Adhere to all relevant federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain awareness of and comply with all company policies and procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related discipline.

• Completion of a field school is required.

• At least 4 years of relevant professional experience is necessary.

• Must be listed on the New Mexico SHPO Directory at the Supervisory Archaeologist/Crew Chief level.

• Expertise in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology throughout New Mexico.

• Skilled in documenting archaeological sites and isolates across New Mexico.

• Proficient in using hand-held field technology (e.g., ArcGIS mobile application with sub-meter GPS receivers).

• Capable of surveying an average of 50 acres/8 miles daily (excluding resource documentation) and carrying personal health and safety equipment (such as water, sunscreen, etc.).

• Ability to work in moderate weather conditions (including fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather like rain and snow).

• Demonstrate independence and efficiency in work duties while collaborating effectively in a team environment.

• Ability to follow instructions and adapt based on feedback received.

• Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy.

• Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and competence in navigating and driving 4WD vehicles.

• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to perform job duties and to communicate effectively with employees and vendors.
