This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Create and design packet-optical transport solutions for both metro and long-haul networks.
• Assess fiber routes and construct optical designs, which include power budgets and OSNR calculations.
• Conduct fiber characterization and analysis through OTDR, CD, PMD, ORL, insertion loss, and spectral analysis.
• Engineer and enhance DWDM and ROADM networks utilizing Ciena transport platforms.
• Implement, test, and commission fiber transport infrastructure.
• Assist in the migration from SONET/TDM to OTN/IP networks.
• Diagnose optical impairments impacting DWDM and OTN performance.
• Deploy and verify 400G/800G coherent optical technologies.
• Ensure that optical links comply with the necessary OSNR, CD, and PMD performance standards.
• Generate and maintain service orders, circuit records, and inventory documentation.
• Document fiber assignments, A-Z circuit paths, and cross-connects.
• Formulate MOP and rollback plans.
• Keep as-built drawings, rack elevations, and topology documentation updated.
• Support maintenance tasks and conduct post-implementation validation.
• Significant experience in transport, optical, and carrier-grade network engineering.
• Strong expertise in supporting Ciena and Nokia transport platforms.
• Proficient in fiber characterization and troubleshooting optical performance issues.
• Understanding of IP/MPLS routing and packet transport technologies.
• Experience in supporting wireless backhaul environments.
• Preferred Nokia Optical Network Certification (ONC/OSC).
• Preferred Nokia Routing Specialist Certification.
• Preferred Ciena Optical Certifications (OC-A, OC-P, OC-C).
• Preferred Ciena MCP Certification.
• Preferred CCNP.
• Preferred NRS II.
• Preferred MEF-CECP.
• Preferred FOA CFOT / CFOS-T.
• Preferred EXFO or VIAVI Fiber Testing Certifications.
• Expertise in OTN (G.709), DWDM, ROADM (CDC-F), Flex-Grid, 400ZR/400ZR+, and FEC.
• Knowledge of MPLS-TE, Segment Routing, EVPN, QoS, and Ethernet OAM (802.1ag / Y.1731).
• Experience with SONET/SDH, PDH, Circuit Emulation, TDM, and DSO/T1.
• Familiarity with Wireless Backhaul, AES/IPsec Encryption, Satellite Network Monitoring & OAM, and SNMP.
• Proficient with Ciena 6500, Ciena MCP, Nokia IXR, Nokia SAR, MetaSolv or similar inventory systems, Confluence, SharePoint, Salesforce, Visio, and AutoCAD.
• Ability to work Monday–Friday during daytime business hours in the Alaska time zone (AKDT).
