This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Direct the installation, configuration, and upkeep of intricate network hardware and software components, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
• Supervise the establishment and maintenance of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).
• Identify and resolve advanced network problems, employing extensive knowledge of network protocols, routing, and switching.
• Investigate and address complex connectivity, performance, and security incidents.
• Utilize sophisticated network monitoring tools to guarantee network performance, reliability, and security.
• Analyze network traffic patterns and implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies to enhance data flow.
• Lead network-associated projects, such as upgrades, migrations, and the integration of new technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to outline project scopes, timelines, and requirements.
• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior network technicians, sharing expertise and best practices.
• Maintain thorough network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
• Develop and enforce network standards to ensure consistency and compliance.
• Implement advanced network security measures, including firewall configurations, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
• Stay informed about security trends and best practices to address evolving threats.
• Plan and execute network changes, upgrades, and patches while minimizing disruption to users and services.
• Document and communicate all changes through the WVU Change Management Process.
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent mix of training, education, and experience in a related field.
• At least four (4) years of experience, which includes:
• Configuration and installation of routers, switches, unified communications, wireless access points, and firewalls.
• Familiarity with Internet TCP/IP protocols such as DHCP, DNS, SNMP, TELNET, FTP, WWW, and SSH.
• Design and implementation of complex and secure LANs/WANs.
• Any equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience will be considered. All qualifications must be met prior to employment.
• Significant experience in network operations, demonstrating a proven track record of progressively responsible roles.
• Proficiency in advanced network protocols and technologies (BGP, OSPF, etc.).
• Strong troubleshooting abilities and the capacity to analyze and resolve complex network issues.
• Expertise in network security principles, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills for effective project management and team collaboration.
• Ability to mentor and guide junior technicians, promoting their professional development.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Adaptability to evolving technologies and a commitment to continuous learning.
• Licenses/Certifications such as Cisco (CCNP or higher), Juniper (JNCIS or higher), Palo Alto (PCNSA or higher), and Fortigate certifications are preferred.
• 37.5-hour work week.
