
National Director – Distinguished Events

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Reporting to the Senior Director of Field Development, this key position is accountable for the enterprise-wide vision, strategic direction, growth planning, and market coaching of gala, golf, CEO Soak, and leadership events nationwide.
• Achieve team goals through effective leadership, engagement, empowerment, and mobilization of diverse partners, constituents, and volunteers.
• Play a vital role in assisting field teams during organizational changes, especially in unstaffed markets, by guiding development operations and ensuring the successful local implementation of national strategies to foster the long-term success of the Distinguished Events program.
• Lead the comprehensive strategic planning for the organization's distinguished events, ensuring alignment with the overall mission and objectives.
• Responsible for achieving a revenue target of approximately $4 million annually across all distinguished events, including but not limited to golf, gala, CEO Soak, and other leadership events.
• Conduct in-depth market research to identify emerging trends and opportunities in event management and integrate them into strategic planning.
• Collaborate with territory leadership to monitor expenses, track financial performance, and provide regular updates to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
• Establish event-specific objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), benchmarks, and metrics to assess the success of each event.
• Guide and collaborate with Regional Vice Presidents and Managing Directors of Development to coach and hold their teams accountable for seamless execution and an exceptional attendee experience.
• Coordinate with internal teams to set event timelines, budgets, and logistical requirements.
• Work with the marketing and communications team to create effective, streamlined marketing strategies and promotional campaigns, leveraging digital platforms and technology to broaden event reach and engage a wider audience.
• Partner with field leadership to provide feedback, identify training needs, and offer ongoing coaching to enhance team members' skills.
• Additional responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving issues.
• Develop and manage the overall department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient resource allocation.
• Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from an accredited four-year college or university and/or equivalent experience.
• Seven to ten years of development experience, including a strong background in non-profit event and fundraising management, is essential.
• Proven experience in planning and executing large-scale distinguished events.
• A team player capable of interfacing with all levels of staff and volunteers.
• Ability to develop, maintain, and effectively utilize relationships.
• A leader who can cultivate a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes creativity, innovation, and professional growth.
• Strong practical foundation in building fundraising programs, including staff orientation, training, stewardship, and motivation in a local, regional, or national management capacity.
• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, budget management, volunteer management, and team building.
• Must exercise sound judgment and know when to seek guidance from a supervisor.
• Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
• Capable of working through others to achieve goals.
• Successful in a diverse team environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time and work occasional nights and weekends for Association business and conferences.
