This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pakistan.
• Oversee the daily health, performance, and availability of SQL Server.
• Proactively detect and address SQL Server issues to avert system outages.
• Manage and supervise SQL Agent Jobs and Maintenance Plans to ensure successful execution.
• Review and uphold SQL Server error logs, event logs, and system alerts.
• Conduct regular integrity checks on databases, maintain indexes, and update statistics.
• Ensure sufficient disk space, memory, and CPU resources are allocated for SQL Server instances.
• Manage and monitor SQL Server replication, including transactional, merge, or snapshot as needed.
• Quickly troubleshoot and resolve replication errors and latency issues.
• Document replication topology, subscriber/publisher configurations, and recovery procedures.
• Set up alerts for replication failures with escalation procedures to minimize business downtime.
• Act as the SQL Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the CounterPoint point-of-sale platform.
• Collaborate with CounterPoint support teams on SQL-related issues and escalations.
• Investigate and resolve database issues affecting CounterPoint stability or functionality.
• Maintain documentation for the CounterPoint database schema, stored procedures, and custom objects.
• Design, implement, and validate comprehensive SQL Server backup strategies (full, differential, transaction log).
• Regularly test and document database restore procedures.
• Uphold and enforce Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
• Ensure backup jobs are monitored and completed successfully; respond immediately to backup failures.
• Manage SQL Server logins, roles, and permissions in accordance with least-privilege principles.
• Conduct routine security audits of database access and permissions.
• Regularly apply SQL Server service packs, cumulative updates, and security patches.
• Maintain compliance with internal data governance and security policies.
• Document all existing SQL Server configurations, Agent Jobs, Maintenance Plans, and replication setups.
• Establish and maintain a SQL Server runbook and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Suggest and implement enhancements to database architecture, performance, and reliability.
• Provide IT management with regular updates on SQL Server health.
• A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA (SQL Server 2016 or later).
• Proven expertise in SQL Server replication, with a strong preference for transactional replication.
• High proficiency in T-SQL, SQL Server Agent, and Maintenance Plan management.
• Experience in SQL Server performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
• Strong understanding of SQL Server backup and recovery strategies.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve production SQL Server issues under pressure.
• Capability to review and take ownership of an undocumented, inherited SQL environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
