This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Oversee and administer Oracle databases on Exadata infrastructure (ExaCC / on-premise) as well as Linux-hosted Standard Edition environments.
• Monitor the health, availability, and capacity of databases across various hosted customer environments.
• Manage Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard configurations on Exadata systems.
• Organize planned maintenance, failover testing, and disaster recovery operations.
• Oversee ASM (Automatic Storage Management) diskgroups and storage configurations on Exadata.
• Conduct both proactive and reactive performance analysis utilizing AWR, ADDM, ASH, and Statspack reports.
• Identify and address database bottlenecks related to SQL execution plans, memory allocation (SGA/PGA), I/O, and locking contention.
• Optimize SQL statements, indexes, and schema objects to enhance application response times.
• Provide detailed written recommendations for performance improvements and root cause analysis to stakeholders and customers.
• Monitor and optimize Exadata-specific features including Smart Scan offloading, Flash Cache, Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC), and IORM.
• Plan and execute quarterly Oracle PSU/RU patching for Standard Edition databases on Linux.
• Manage full-stack patching processes on the Exadata platform, which includes DB home patches, GI patches, Exadata Bundle Patches (ExaBP), and cell patches.
• Coordinate patching efforts through the Change Advisory Board (CAB) process to minimize customer downtime.
• Test patches in lower environments before production rollout and maintain comprehensive patching documentation.
• Track Oracle patch schedules, Critical Patch Updates (CPUs), and security advisories.
• Develop and maintain scripts in Shell (Bash), Python, and PL/SQL to automate routine DBA tasks such as health checks, space monitoring, alert log parsing, and report generation.
• Build and optimize automation for patching workflows, backup verification, and performance data collection.
• Integrate DBA automation scripts with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) where relevant.
• Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives related to database provisioning and configuration management.
• Design, implement, and maintain Oracle RMAN backup strategies for both Exadata and Standard Edition environments, including full, incremental, and archived log backup policies.
• Perform and validate periodic recovery tests to ensure backup integrity and meet RTO/RPO objectives.
• Manage Data Pump (expdp/impdp) exports for logical backups, environment refreshes, and data migration.
• Maintain backup and recovery runbooks, escalation procedures, and incident documentation.
• Lead database recovery efforts during incidents, ensuring minimal data loss and prompt restoration.
• Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and customer success managers to resolve database-related challenges.
• Contribute to the internal knowledge base and Confluence documentation for SOPs, runbooks, and architectural references.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support production databases during off-hours incidents.
• Mentor junior DBA team members and provide technical guidance on best practices.
• A minimum of 7 years of Oracle DBA experience in an enterprise hosting or managed services environment.
• Practical experience in administering Oracle Exadata (ExaCC, X8 or newer, quarter/half/full rack configurations).
• Proven track record of managing Oracle Standard Edition (SE2) databases on RHEL/OEL Linux platforms.
• Strong expertise in Oracle performance tuning using AWR, ADDM, ASH, SQL Tuning Advisor, and execution plan analysis.
• Experience with Oracle RMAN backup strategies, including cross-platform recovery and Exadata-specific configurations.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Oracle patching across both SE and Exadata platforms (PSU, RU, ExaBP, GI patches).
• Skilled in scripting languages such as Bash/Shell scripting and PL/SQL; familiarity with Python is advantageous.
• Experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, and Data Guard in high-availability configurations.
• Solid understanding of Linux OS administration (RHEL/OEL) as it pertains to Oracle database hosting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of generating clear technical documentation and customer-facing performance reports.
