This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist with compliance-focused system and process initiatives by offering legal interpretation, guidance, and review of mortgage regulatory standards.
• Act as the primary legal resource regarding fees, disclosures, documents, and document-vendor issues by interpreting relevant federal and state mortgage regulations and advising on fee treatment, disclosure timing and content, document triggers and packages, as well as associated workflow requirements.
• Perform legal research and analysis on mortgage regulatory inquiries, including those beyond the scope of fees and disclosures, as assigned.
• Transform legal requirements into practical guidance and decision-making points that Compliance, QA, Technology, and business teams can utilize for requirements, testing, and implementation.
• Review and endorse regulatory requirements, interpretations, and legal positions crafted by Compliance or other stakeholders prior to implementation where appropriate.
• Assess whether proposed system configurations, document logic, disclosures, workflows, and related outputs meet regulatory requirements and internal legal interpretations.
• Evaluate testing outcomes, issue findings, and supporting evidence to ascertain if the observed system behavior or document output aligns with legal and regulatory expectations.
• Conclude pass/fail results, identify follow-up legal inquiries, and clarify when requirement modifications, additional testing, or configuration updates are necessary.
• Collaborate with Technology, Operations, Compliance, and external vendors to address questions related to legal requirements, system behavior, and document generation or delivery.
• Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of document-vendor-related legal requirements, including reviewing how disclosures and documents are generated, triggered, or populated within the loan origination system.
• Document legal interpretations, decisions, issue resolutions, and review conclusions in a clear and organized manner to facilitate implementation, auditing, examination, and internal review processes.
• Provide timely legal insights on open issues, exceptions, and inquiries to ensure compliance-related workstreams continue progressing.
• Identify emerging legal issues, gaps, or inconsistencies in requirements, documentation, testing, or system behavior, and communicate necessary actions to stakeholders.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Experience in mortgage, consumer financial services, regulatory compliance, or a related legal field, with extensive knowledge of mortgage regulatory requirements.
• Preferred experience with mortgage fees, disclosures, documents, and related regulatory requirements.
• Preferred experience in supporting the implementation or maintenance of loan origination system document logic, disclosure behavior, or document-vendor integrations.
• Preferred experience with loan origination systems, disclosure processes, document review, or vendor-managed document solutions; familiarity with DocMagic is a plus.
• Comfortable collaborating across Legal, Compliance, Technology, Operations, and external vendors in a dynamic setting.
• Advanced legal research and analytical abilities, including proven skills in interpreting complex federal and state regulatory requirements and applying them to business processes, system functionality, and document outputs.
• Proficient in determining whether system configurations, workflows, and outputs meet legal requirements without necessarily acting as the technical designer of those solutions.
• Advanced judgment and capability in distinguishing issues that require formal legal interpretation from those that can be resolved through practical clarification or guidance.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate legal concepts into actionable guidance for Compliance, Technology, QA, and business stakeholders.
• Skilled in managing multiple legal inquiries, reviews, and workstreams simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and supporting project progression.
• Adept at identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or risks in requirements, testing outcomes, documentation, or system behavior.
