Mortgage Community Development Lender

📋 Description

• Generate high-quality mortgage loans primarily aimed at low-to-moderate income borrowers to address the housing needs of underserved communities.

• Boost mortgage loan volume by concentrating on CRA, low-to-moderate, and minority customers through effective consultative selling techniques.

• Represent the bank within the community by participating in local meetings/events and conducting training seminars for residents on loan application processes and mortgage loan products and services.

• Collaborate with non-profit partners to deliver homebuyer education, mortgage credit counseling, and technical assistance.

• Identify relevant community groups and devise a strategy for outreach.

• Participate in housing/credit/finance-related boards, charitable organizations, or MBA committees consistently.

• Contribute to the development of programs and engage in credit-related training for consumers to enhance community knowledge, maximizing the advantages of mortgage loans and services.

• Facilitate outreach training sessions on financial literacy, mortgages, banking, and homeownership.

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of Southern Bancorp’s product offerings.

• Identify potential loan applicants through referrals and conduct sales calls as needed to inform prospects about loan products and solicit business effectively.

• Assist borrowers with the application process by providing guidance on form completion and keeping applicants informed about necessary documentation.

• Stay informed about available grant/subsidy programs in the market to ensure borrowers receive maximum funding.

• Prepare loan status reports for each loan in the individual pipeline to share with non-profit housing partners when applicable.

• Interview and counsel loan applicants regarding the various mortgage loan programs provided by the bank.

• Assess the financial status and credit of each potential borrower, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the contract of sale for accurate application submission.

• Perform sales calls to housing non-profits to maintain relationships and ensure a consistent flow of referrals.

• Report weekly on loan volumes to management and generate any other necessary reports to demonstrate the success of originating efforts as requested by management.

• Comprehend the complexities of partnerships with non-profit organizations to mitigate any potential reputational risks.

• Engage in special projects as assigned by the mortgage leadership team.


⛳️ Requirements

• A High School Diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

• A minimum of two years’ experience in community development lending or minority mortgage lending, focusing on bridging the homeownership gap for underserved communities.

• Must possess or obtain NMLS clearance.

• Experience with a wide range of program and mortgage investor guidelines is essential.

• A recent proven track record of closed production that meets or exceeds Southern mortgage’s minimum production standards is required.

• Established history of referral sources to meet outside sales production expectations.

• Experience in housing counseling, financial planning, and mortgage credit counseling is preferred.

• A good listener and self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to positively represent Southern when interacting with customers and colleagues.

• Ability to travel within the market is essential, along with possessing a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.

• Fluency in a second language is preferred but not mandatory.
