Mid-Level Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Contribute to the research, development, and maintenance of mission-critical software applications, backend services, APIs, data processing workflows, and analytical capabilities.

• Design and enhance software applications that support data scientists and mission partners.

• Maintain and upgrade existing custom applications.

• Diagnose defects and enhance application performance.

• Participate in code reviews and produce technical documentation.

• Assist in delivering dependable capabilities in an agile, remote-first setting.

• Collaborate closely with software engineers, data scientists, analysts, and customer stakeholders.

• Develop applications and data pipelines that convert complex data into actionable insights.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a US citizen.

• Possess a current Top Secret security clearance and/or CBP/DHS suitability.

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field; alternatively, 4 additional years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

• A master’s degree may be considered as an additional 2 years of experience.

• Have over 4 years of proven professional experience in programming, design, and/or development.

• Professional experience with one or more strongly typed programming languages such as Java, Rust, or similar.

• Professional experience with one or more scripting languages like Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar.

• Familiarity with agile software development practices and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Git.

• Must be open to working in a remote setting or at a nearby Vantor facility and comfortable communicating via video calls.

• Preferred: backend development expertise in Java and Rust.

• Preferred: experience with low-latency, streaming, or event-driven data processing technologies like Apache Flink and/or Apache Kafka.

• Preferred: full-stack development using contemporary front-end JavaScript frameworks, especially React, Next, Leaflet, MapLibre, and Redux.

• Preferred: development and maintenance of REST API frameworks.

• Preferred: experience with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or OpenStack.

• Preferred: familiarity with containerized deployments using Kubernetes and Docker.

• Preferred: knowledge of CI/CD tools and workflows such as Jenkins, ArgoCD, Harness, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.

• Preferred: SQL database development, schema design, query optimization, or data modeling with PostgreSQL, Apache Iceberg, or similar technologies.

• Preferred: experience in supporting research and development projects and creating production-ready systems from scratch.

• Strong verbal, written, documentation, and organizational skills.
