This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Assists in the transition of an outdated Integrated Library System (ILS) to a unified Ex Libris Alma/Primo Library Services Platform (LSP).
• Collaborates with the LSP vendor, the Metadata Technology and Access (MeTA) Team, and the System LSP Transition Team.
• Evaluates current metadata and formulates a detailed migration strategy.
• Identifies challenges related to migration and suggests feasible solutions.
• Oversees the integration of library records.
• Utilizes tools such as OpenRefine, MarcEdit, and regular expressions for metadata transformation and standardization.
• Implements standards including MARC, Dublin Core, MODS, and RDA.
• Ensures the consistent application of controlled vocabularies and name authorities.
• Improves metadata elements to enhance discoverability and user engagement.
• Develops and executes quality control protocols in conjunction with the MeTA team.
• Performs regular integrity assessments and addresses discrepancies.
• Records quality control results and resolutions of issues.
• Aids in the technical transfer of metadata into Alma.
• Conducts tests to confirm the proper functionality of metadata in the new shared system.
• Provides consistent project updates and thorough progress reports.
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent).
• At least 5 years of experience in metadata creation and management (including original cataloging) within a library environment.
• Expertise in metadata standards (MARC, Dublin Core, MODS, RDA) and controlled vocabularies/authorities (LCSH, MeSH, LCNAF, VIAF).
• Practical experience with metadata cleanup and transformation tools (e.g., OpenRefine, MarcEdit, regular expressions).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with ILS/LSP systems.
• Proven leadership in at least one full ILS/LSP migration project.
• Project experience involving SUSHI protocol implementation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively across distributed teams.
