Membership Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and implement a thorough membership strategy targeting acquisition, engagement, renewal, and retention.

• Evaluate membership performance and suggest improvements based on data analysis and member feedback.

• Establish and track membership KPIs and objectives, focusing on engagement, retention, and renewal rates.

• Design and execute programs for welcoming and onboarding new members.

• Clearly communicate IASA’s value proposition, programs, resources, and benefits to both members and prospects.

• Partner with the Marketing team to develop strategies for membership recruitment and retention.

• Create strategies that enhance participation among member organizations and demonstrate organizational-level value and ROI.

• Cultivate relationships with key member contacts and organizational stakeholders.

• Experiment with new methods for member recruitment, engagement, and retention; assess outcomes and expand successful initiatives.

• Manage membership data tracking and reporting processes.

• Oversee the operations and data integrity of the membership database, including records management, billing, renewals, activity tracking, integrations, imports, and vendor coordination.

• Act as a primary relationship contact, addressing membership inquiries and needs.

• Enhance membership workflows, processes, efficiency, data quality, and overall member experience.

• Develop and implement a member engagement scoring system.

• Spot opportunities for automation, simplification of manual tasks, and leveraging technology and AI.

• Set up scalable standards and processes for membership operations.

• Formulate and execute strategies to bolster chapter health, effectiveness, and alignment with IASA priorities.

• Recognize recurring chapter needs and create standardized tools, resources, training, or processes.

• Assess chapter programs, resources, and support models.

• Serve as the staff liaison to the Chapter Advisory Committee.

• Provide support to other volunteer groups as required.

• Travel to chapter events and meetings as an ambassador for IASA.

• Maintain positive relations between chapters and the national organization.

• Identify and replicate successful chapter strategies.

• Manage programs for chapter recognition and incentives.


⛳️ Requirements

• At least three years of experience in membership and/or chapter leadership within a non-profit, member-driven organization.

• A minimum of two years managing volunteer groups.

• Experience overseeing an Association Management System (AMS); iMIS experience is preferred.

• High-level expertise in data management and analysis, utilizing data to guide membership strategies and activities.

• CAE or IOM certification is preferred.

• Excellent organizational and communication abilities.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Proven capability to independently lead projects from inception to execution, including establishing next steps, managing timelines, and resolving issues without extensive oversight.

• Strong judgment and prioritization skills; capable of discerning the important from the merely urgent and making thoughtful trade-offs when resources are constrained.

• Comfortable working in a small-team environment where responsibilities may extend beyond traditional roles and priorities may evolve.

• Proactively identifies opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate unnecessary tasks, leverage technology, and maximize limited staff capacity.

• Must be willing to travel 3-5 times per year.
