Member of the Technical Staff, Internal Agent

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design and construct V as the primary interactive interface for accomplishing tasks at Vercel, ranging from answering inquiries and analyzing data to executing intricate, multi-system workflows.

• Develop the agent architecture that enables V to comprehend intent, strategize tasks, select appropriate skills and tools, recover from setbacks, and reliably finish long-running assignments.

• Deliver refined experiences across Slack, web, and other platforms, merging natural-language communication with rich, interactive interfaces when chat alone isn't sufficient.

• Create evaluation, observability, and feedback systems that assess whether V's responses and actions are accurate, beneficial, efficient, and trustworthy.

• Establish foundational elements that allow teams across Vercel to introduce new functionalities without generating fragmented agents or inconsistent user experiences.

• Assist in defining what it means for a company to be operated through an agent and translate our learnings from building V into concepts and infrastructure that can ultimately benefit Vercel's customers.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of full-time software engineering experience.

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript.

• Comfortable collaborating across product surfaces and system boundaries, including conversational UI, interactive data experiences, APIs, queues, databases, permissions, and production infrastructure.

• Passionate about the quality of AI interaction, focusing on context selection, tool utilization, memory, latency, generated interfaces, uncertainty, progress communication, and seeking assistance when necessary.

• Proven history of openness and adaptability, with the capability to quickly learn new technologies, domains, or responsibilities.

• Experience with utilizing and developing agent harnesses (OpenClaw, Hermes, Pi, etc.) is a plus but not mandatory.
