This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Leverage available encoder and grouper software, along with various coding resources, to accurately identify the relevant ICD-10-CM, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes, including specialty-specific codes and Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes.
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of National Correct Coding Initiatives (NCCI), Local Coverage Documents, and National Coverage Documents (LCD/NCD) directives, as well as Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs) and Medicare Teaching Physician Guidelines, applying knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and institutional guidelines to select the correct codes and modifiers.
• Accountable for resolving pre-bill claim edits (OCE, CCI, MUE, Medical Necessity, etc.) across all clinical areas of Hospital Billing. You will aim to ensure the highest quality of claims is submitted before they proceed to Billing or are sent to the payer.
• High School Diploma or equivalent along with medical coding education is required, or
• An active coding certification is required in lieu of a medical coding education.
• An Associate's Degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year of progressive coding experience is required (specific HCC experience needed for HCC-specific roles).
• 2 years of progressive coding experience across multiple specialties, with HCC Risk Adjustment Coding preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) upon hire is required, or
• Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) upon hire is required, or
• Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) upon hire is required, or
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) upon hire is required, or
• Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P) upon hire is required, or
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) upon hire is required, or
• Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) upon hire is required, or
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) upon hire is required, or
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) upon hire is required.
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred, or
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is preferred.
