• Evaluates, analyzes, and interprets provider documentation concerning the selection of procedure and diagnosis codes.
• Conducts audits of provider coding and documentation to offer suggestions for enhancements and improvements.
• Maintains a close collaborative relationship with assigned providers and medical office, regularly consulting the provider when coding discrepancies occur.
• Investigates any coding inquiries from the provider or medical staff and shares findings with them.
• Reviews hospital, clinical, and surgical documentation along with assigned diagnosis and procedure codes, processing charges within the Epic system.
• Identifies inconsistencies between the provider's code selection and medical record documentation; makes necessary corrections and educates the provider on findings.
• Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of official coding guidelines established by the American Medical Association (AMA), the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and contracted payers.
• Collaborates with billing partners to create efficient coding processes and to investigate denials.
• Addresses customer concerns through coding reviews requested by other departments.
• Facilitates provider coding orientation and education sessions, documenting all information shared.
• Maintains extensive knowledge of Epic ambulatory and hospital modules.
• Works collaboratively as part of a team to meet productivity goals.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of two years of experience in coding professional services across multiple specialties.
• Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) or another equivalent coding certification is mandatory.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills.
