Mechanical Engineering Lead, Data Centers

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Serve as the main point of contact for clients, addressing their inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.

• Establish and nurture robust relationships with clients, frequently communicating to comprehend their needs and expectations.

• Coordinate with various disciplines while acting as the lead mechanical engineer to guarantee that projects are completed within budget and on schedule, managing the mechanical team, which includes HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing.

• Create detailed specifications for mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, and air handling units, while preparing reports for both internal and external purposes based on findings.

• Ensure that discipline plans are formulated to meet the overall project team's requirements regarding scope and schedule.

• Stay updated on codes and technologies relevant to mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems associated with hyperscale data centers.

• Analyze and assess mechanical system performance, pinpointing areas for improvement and suggesting upgrades.

• Offer technical support during the construction phase, addressing RFIs and resolving any issues that arise.

• Participate in job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as necessary.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.

• Assess and recommend new technologies and equipment to improve system performance and lower operational costs.

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including electrical and mechanical engineers, to ensure the seamless integration of chiller systems with other data center infrastructure.

• Analyze energy consumption, identifying opportunities for optimization and cost savings.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering along with ten (10) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or mechanical engineering, particularly focused on data center infrastructure, or equivalent experience and education.

• A Professional Engineer License (P.E.) is mandatory.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering plus twelve (12) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or mechanical engineering, specifically in data center infrastructure, or equivalent experience and education.

• Significant experience in mechanical engineering pertaining to data centers or other critical facilities.

• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, piping, and fire suppression system design and construction.

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

• Capability to establish and uphold strong relationships with clients.

• Ability to think innovatively and recognize opportunities to enhance the client experience.

• Proficient in using computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Experience in data center design and construction, including familiarity with design criteria and industry standards.
