This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Design, evaluate, and support industrial refrigeration systems that utilize ammonia, CO2, and Freon refrigerants.
• Create and uphold engineering standards, specifications, and comprehensive system documentation.
• Assess system performance and suggest enhancements to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
• Offer technical assistance for troubleshooting and conducting root cause analyses of refrigeration system challenges.
• Collaborate closely with the Design and Construction team to establish design standards for the organization.
• Assist in meeting Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements for ammonia systems.
• Engage in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Management of Change (MOCs), mechanical integrity programs, and compliance audits.
• Ensure that designs and system modifications adhere to OSHA, EPA, IIAR, ASHRAE, and relevant codes and standards.
• Aid in incident investigations and the formulation of corrective actions.
• Provide engineering support for refrigeration-related capital projects, expansions, and retrofits.
• Review designs from contractors and consultants for alignment with engineering standards and project specifications.
• Assist with commissioning, startup, and system acceptance processes.
• Contribute technical insights regarding equipment selection, vendor evaluation, and scope development.
• Team up with Facilities and Maintenance teams to create maintenance strategies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational guidelines.
• Offer field engineering support during significant outages, repairs, and emergency situations.
• Supervise contractor activities, ensuring that technical work is performed safely and accurately.
• Analyze system performance data to pinpoint reliability risks, capacity limitations, and opportunities for energy optimization.
• Assist in lifecycle asset planning, condition assessments, and formulating replacement recommendations.
• Identify prospects for system modernization and automation initiatives.
• Maintain precise P&IDs, equipment files, calculations, and other technical documentation.
• Ensure documentation supports PSM compliance, audits, and operational readiness.
• Contribute to the enterprise knowledge sharing and continuous improvement efforts.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the industrial refrigeration sector.
• Practical experience with ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration systems.
• Proficient understanding of Freon-based systems.
• Expertise in industrial ammonia and Freon refrigeration engineering.
• Strong grasp of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) compliance requirements.
• Proven experience in system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and operational problem-solving within industrial refrigeration settings.
• Background in supporting capital projects, including system upgrades, expansions, commissioning, and equipment optimization efforts.
• Skilled in interpreting and developing P&IDs, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Solid understanding of asset reliability, preventative maintenance strategies, and energy optimization practices.
• Familiarity with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements.
