This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Spearhead the mechanical engineering assessment of potential sites, colocation capacity, and build-to-suit projects.
• Take responsibility for technical assumptions regarding cooling topology, capacity, and equipment strategies that contribute to the pre-construction risk register.
• Evaluate liquid cooling, air cooling, and hybrid strategies in relation to site conditions, power density, and AI/hyperscale load requirements.
• Provide recommendations for Go / No-Go decisions on mechanical feasibility as projects progress through significant development stages.
• Deliver a thoroughly validated mechanical scope to the Delivery organization, accompanied by complete documentation and reduced risk.
• Lead mechanical due diligence on potential sites, current facilities, and colocation capacity under review.
• Assess cooling capacity, chiller plant strategies, CRAH/CRAC configurations, and readiness for liquid cooling based on expected IT load.
• Examine the availability of mechanical equipment, lead times, and vendor constraints that might influence schedule or capital expenditure.
• Ensure that mechanical assumptions are fully incorporated into project budgets, capacity models, and timelines.
• Collaborate with Engineering to establish a cooling topology and mechanical system strategy suited to each site and deal structure.
• Evaluate the integration of BMS controls and commissioning needs for mechanical systems early in the acquisition phase.
• Provide technical insights on equipment selection, redundancy strategies, and capital expenditure considerations across potential sites.
• Ensure that the mechanical design intent is maintained as deals transition from negotiation to development.
• Set mechanical technical readiness criteria as part of the project handoff standards.
• Confirm that mechanical design assumptions, equipment specifications, and capacity commitments are finalized before the handover to Delivery.
• Identify and mitigate mechanical technical risks before they affect construction.
• Act as the primary mechanical engineering technical liaison across Site Selection, Technical Due Diligence, Development, Energy, and Delivery.
• Collaborate with consulting engineers, equipment vendors, and commissioning agents to validate implementable mechanical strategies.
• Align internal stakeholders and external consultants to avoid technical scope drift as projects transition from acquisition to development.
• Over 8 years of experience in data center mechanical engineering, MEP design, or mission-critical mechanical systems.
• Proficient in cooling topology design, liquid cooling systems, chiller plants, and CRAH/CRAC systems tailored for high-density AI/hyperscale environments.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical capacity planning, equipment selection, and capital expenditure trade-offs in data center design.
• Experience in evaluating the mechanical feasibility of sites or facilities prior to commercial commitments.
• Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Background in supporting hyperscale data center or AI infrastructure development.
• Experience with BMS controls integration and the commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or a similar professional certification.
• Experience evaluating colocation or build-to-suit mechanical infrastructure within a due diligence context.
• Competitive compensation
• Career growth and learning opportunities
• Flexibility and ownership
• Collaborative and innovative culture
• Opportunity to work on impactful AI projects
• International environment and talented teams
