Mechanical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Assist in the design and development of specialized high-temperature process equipment, such as molten salt vessels, furnaces, and associated thermal systems.

• Aid in converting process requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs while collaborating with electrochemical, piping, electrical, controls, procurement, fabrication, and operations teams.

• Create and support designs for high-temperature molten salt vessels, furnaces, thermal equipment, fixtures, and custom process apparatus.

• Generate mechanical design inputs, calculations, equipment specifications, drawings, design review documentation, and fabrication support materials.

• Assess materials, thermal expansion, sealing, insulation, support structures, maintainability, fabrication methods, and equipment interfaces.

• Align mechanical design specifications with electrochemical systems, mechanical piping, electrical power, controls, instrumentation, and manufacturing teams.

• Facilitate vendor coordination, fabrication oversight, inspection, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and resolution of design changes.

• Guarantee that mechanical designs meet safety, quality, manufacturability, operability, maintainability, and project timeline requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience with high-temperature mechanical equipment, molten salt vessels, furnace design, thermal systems, or comparable industrial process equipment.

• Documented experience in custom equipment design and fabrication, including the creation of practical designs that can be constructed, inspected, installed, and maintained.

• Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles related to materials, pressure/thermal impacts, structural supports, equipment interfaces, and design documentation.

• Capability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams in a safety- and quality-focused engineering setting.

• Experience in supporting design reviews, calculations, specifications, drawings, procurement, fabrication, or field implementation tasks.

• Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with molten salts, high-temperature corrosion considerations, refractory/insulation systems, or specialized furnace and vessel design.

• Experience in DOE, NNSA, nuclear, advanced energy, chemical processing, metallurgy, or highly regulated industrial environments.

• Professional Engineer registration, advanced mechanical design experience, or experience serving as a technical lead for custom equipment design is desired.
