Manager, Urban Forestry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Provide expertise to states and municipalities (75%)

• Maintain consistent communication with grantee partners, city personnel, state agencies, community organizations, and other regional collaborators

• Fulfill project scopes, timelines, budgets, and deliverables for designated technical assistance initiatives

• Oversee logistics, timelines, and documentation for all project activities

• Cultivate partner relationships throughout the region

• Actively develop new relationships, project opportunities, and technical assistance offerings

• Support team-wide initiatives (15%)

• Participate in workshops, training sessions, webinars, and presentations

• Train and assist partners

• Contribute to a technical assistance resource library

• Operations & Administration (10%)

• Manage administrative responsibilities

• Attend team meetings, training sessions, and planning discussions

• Manage and report regional project information


⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5 years of professional experience in urban forestry or a closely related discipline

• Preferred education or credentials in urban forestry, urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related field

• Strongly preferred: ISA Certified Arborist and/or Certified Urban Forest Professional, or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months

• Proven knowledge of urban ecology, urban forestry, and arboriculture standards and best practices

• Relevant experience in policy, planning, or community engagement is also valued

• Ability to learn and utilize American Forests’ tools and resources, and to clearly articulate technical concepts to partners

• Experience working with racially, culturally, and economically diverse populations

• Experience in supporting and coordinating a portfolio of projects in a remote work setting

• Interest in promoting program sustainability and growth

• Familiarity with social equity and environmental justice principles, objectives, and practices as they pertain to urban forestry

• Experience managing grants, contracts, or public funding

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Highly organized and proactive, with exceptional attention to detail
