This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Monitoring & Tracking: Maintain an organized and updated daily bill tracking system focused on state and federal legislative developments.
• Strategic Planning: Assist in the formulation and implementation of the organization's policy objectives and long-term advocacy strategies.
• Content Creation: Draft and refine policy memos, letters, talking points, reports, and resources for public advocacy.
• Partnerships: Develop and nurture robust relationships with other non-profits, government officials, stakeholders, and key offices to enhance advocacy efforts.
• Public Representation: Act as a representative for LGBTQ+ youth by participating as a speaker at panels, conferences, and meetings.
• Community Education: Inform policymakers, stakeholders, and the public about LGBTQ+ policies and suicide prevention initiatives.
• Cross-Team Alignment: Collaborate with internal team partners within Advocacy and other departments to ensure project coherence.
• Project Management: Manage multiple short- and long-term projects with a keen attention to detail and strong follow-up capabilities.
• Team Leadership: Train, supervise, and guide volunteers and interns.
• Uphold fair, ethical, and equitable business practices.
• Demonstrate eagerness to learn, share knowledge appropriately, and pursue continuous improvement.
• Exhibit effective planning and problem-solving abilities, including multitasking and functioning well under tight deadlines.
• Collaborate, communicate, and work effectively with others.
• Show meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
• Commit to fostering and maintaining a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
• Proven experience in legislative analysis, drafting, and amendment strategy within a state legislative or similar setting for 3-5 years. Familiarity with technology and appropriations policy at this level is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to various audiences in written, spoken, and presentation formats for 3-5 years.
• Experience in establishing trusted, productive, long-term relationships within organizations and with external partners to collaborate on advocacy initiatives at local, state, and national levels, particularly with marginalized communities (e.g., LGBTQ+ individuals, communities of color, and people with disabilities).
• A strong commitment to LGBTQ rights, youth mental health, or crisis intervention advocacy, along with a desire to increase support for LGBTQ rights among diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in:
• - Legislative Tracking Software: At least 1 year of proven experience using legislative trackers to monitor a high volume of daily policy activities.
• - Google Suite Products: Familiarity with the Google platform, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Presentations.
• - Grassroots activation technology: Experience using emails and SMS messaging through platforms like MailChimp and text messaging services to mobilize grassroots advocacy efforts.
• - Cultural Competency: A nuanced understanding of the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and/or youth mental health, along with a passion for learning more about marginalized identities and applying this awareness to all work.
• High emotional intelligence, integrity, discretion, and the ability to establish trust across diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Proficient in spoken and written English.
