This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Accountable for the operational activities of the Professional Coding Operations team for BUMG.
• Plays a pivotal role in ensuring the precision of CPT, HCPCS, and diagnosis code assignments by coders, physicians, and non-physician practitioners.
• Collaborates closely with key stakeholders in the revenue cycle to comprehend the reasons behind denials, conduct root cause analysis, and provide feedback to providers.
• Oversees the professional billing coding staff.
• Teams up with the Coding Education Team to pinpoint trends in coding practices and aids in formulating feedback and educational resources for providers.
• Analyzes coding denials to resolve issues, identify trends, and deliver constructive feedback to providers and departments.
• Conducts quality assurance reviews of inpatient and outpatient records to evaluate and report on the efficacy of training programs and the quality of coders.
• Regularly provides in-service training and feedback to coding staff, including updates on coding changes.
• Manages coding operations to ensure that organizational objectives are achieved.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience.
• CPC – Certified Professional Coder.
• A minimum of five years of coding experience is required, including roles in education, mentoring, or training.
• At least five years of experience coding in an acute care hospital setting with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4; experience in an academic medical institution or trauma center is preferred.
• A minimum of three years of management experience is required; five years is preferred.
• Previous experience with claim edits and denials is necessary.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and CPT4/HCPCS coding conventions, as well as E&M coding.
• Strong understanding of health records, computerized billing and charging systems, Microsoft applications, data integrity, and processing techniques.
