This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Provides strategic and practical leadership for ISAR and Cultural Safety, transforming organizational priorities into frameworks, standards, and guiding methodologies that influence work throughout the organization.
• Leads and supports a team tasked with executing JCC workplans and organizational initiatives, which include system-level efforts, events and learning, employee programs, and governance as well as committee support.
• Sets direction, priorities, and expectations for team outputs, ensuring alignment with organizational commitments and provincial strategies.
• Ensures coherence, quality, and consistency of ISAR and Cultural Safety initiatives across various projects, balancing strategic vision with practical application.
• Acts as an advisor to leadership, governance bodies, and committees, shaping direction through expert advice and evidence-driven recommendations.
• Identifies systemic risks, gaps, and opportunities, providing counsel on strategies to enhance organizational and system-level effectiveness.
• Interprets and leverages emerging research, policy developments, and leading practices to continually refine approaches.
• Offers leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to team members, empowering them to design and implement initiatives within their areas of responsibility.
• Cultivates and maintains trust-based relationships with Indigenous and system partners to inform, guide, and align the organization’s efforts, including partnerships with the Ministry of Health, Health Authorities, FNHA, and Métis Nation BC.
• Provides strategic guidance and support to ISAR CS governance and advisory bodies, such as the JCC ISAR Steering Committee and Indigenous Guiding Circle.
• Must be of Indigenous ancestry (Turtle Island—First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
• Profound knowledge of the effects of colonialization on Indigenous peoples in health contexts, including a deep understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism, and anti-racism.
• Knowledge and respect for Indigenous approaches to health and wellbeing, cultural traditions, ceremonies, protocols, and traditional wellness practices.
• Must acknowledge the diversity among First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures.
• Experience and expertise in team building, staff development, and coaching based on trauma-informed and anti-oppressive principles and practices.
• Completed a graduate university degree AND/OR hold a recognized professional designation in a specialized field, along with up to six years of progressive and related experience; OR possess an equivalent level of relevant work experience in lieu of post-secondary education.
• Previous experience in leading and facilitating ISAR, Cultural Safety, and Reconciliation initiatives within a complex organizational structure.
• Strategic and tactical problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate strategic goals into actionable plans and measurable results.
• Proven relationship-building skills, good judgment, critical thinking abilities, a sense of teamwork and community, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks while being highly organized.
• Demonstrated expertise in fostering key partner relations, particularly in assisting diverse groups in collaborating towards shared objectives and enhanced collective impact.
• Fundamental understanding of the organization and its interconnected components within the BC healthcare system.
• Exceptional writing skills, with a proven ability to create clear, concise, and comprehensive reports, executive briefing notes, and presentations for varied audiences.
• Excellent judgment in prioritizing tasks, proactively identifying issues, and determining necessary actions while operating under pressure and deadlines.
• Proven ability to engage with diverse groups of individuals who have varying interests.
• Superior interpersonal, oral communication, and relationship management abilities.
• Experience in supervising and managing teams within complex systems and collaborating effectively with senior and executive management.
• Capacity to self-manage a varied and flexible work schedule to accommodate the needs of participating physicians while ensuring an appropriate work-life balance and meeting project deadlines and deliverables.
• Must be willing to travel occasionally as required and work beyond regular business hours when necessary.
