This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee the daily operations of the medical underwriting team.
• Manage the assessment of medical underwriting requirements and risk selection for group accounts.
• Analyze risks and decide on approval or denial for complex cases and second signoffs.
• Stay informed about current and emerging medical underwriting practices, and share new trends and insights.
• Enforce medical underwriting rules and guidelines, conduct application quality audits, and ensure compliance with insurance laws and regulations.
• Offer training, development opportunities, challenging assignments, and constructive feedback to team members.
• Facilitate change management and support departmental or organizational initiatives.
• Recruit, train, develop, and retain talented staff.
• Enhance organizational capability and act as a resource for team members and stakeholders.
• Foster professional relationships with internal and external partners, including distribution and project management teams.
• Integrate Quality Assurance and Training recommendations into employee development and performance evaluation.
• Execute responsibilities in accordance with state and federal regulations as well as company policies.
• Stay updated on professional and industry trends and propose enhancements.
• Perform additional duties as needed.
• Expertise in medical underwriting.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; 4 years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
• A minimum of 5 years in risk management.
• Extensive background in medical underwriting for group coverages.
• At least 2 years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience.
• FALU (Fellow Academy of Life Underwriting) designation is preferred.
• FLMI (Fellow Life Management Institute) designation is preferred.
• Experience in group/employer insurance is preferred.
• Capability to adhere to state and federal regulations and company policies.
