• Serve as the EHS subject matter expert to guarantee compliance with safety and environmental regulations at the company, state, and federal levels.
• Assist the EHS Director in identifying priority EHS focus areas and plants within the Business Segment.
• Contribute to the formulation of safety improvement strategies and the execution of associated risk reduction initiatives.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess progress towards set goals, improvement strategies, action items, and initiatives.
• Engage in and support risk reduction efforts aimed at managing claims, minimizing injuries, and lowering workers' compensation costs, including ergonomics, manual handling, industrial hygiene, and machine guarding.
• Liaise with government bodies, plant leaders, and segment leaders.
• Aid in the evaluation and assessment of expense or capital projects.
• Support annual performance evaluations and professional development plans for site EHS personnel.
• Organize, lead, and facilitate Safety and Environmental Kaizens.
• Assist in reviewing injuries, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
• Lead and facilitate integration and facility consolidation efforts.
• Deliver innovative behavior-based training focused on leadership and proactive employee engagement.
• Execute and oversee environmental, health, and safety programs, including injury reduction, industrial safety, waste management, air emissions, wastewater discharge, and spill/emergency response.
• Advocate for the utilization of the EMS database to track injuries, compliance calendars, JSA’s, corrective actions, and other essential EMS program components.
• Analyze first aid incidents, near misses, and recordable injuries to implement and communicate proactive strategies to avert similar occurrences.
• Conduct safety and environmental audits and inspections, communicate findings, document and monitor the progress of corrective actions, and follow up to ensure implementation.
• Provide technical support for pollution and/or risk prevention projects as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical or engineering field.
• A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive EHS responsibilities, including leadership roles.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and lead within a matrix organization.
• Essential skills for this position include attention to detail, compliance orientation, the ability to manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously, and effective communication.
• Computer proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
