Manager, Editorial and Publishing Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Develop, execute, and sustain editorial policies, procedures, style guides, writing standards, templates, and style manuals.

• Create a uniform editorial voice across educational and publication resources while adhering to organizational branding.

• Ensure that publications comply with evidence-based standards, editorial best practices, accessibility guidelines, and organizational quality benchmarks.

• Oversee editorial quality assurance for print, digital, online learning, and multimedia educational products.

• Assess complex manuscripts for organization, readability, and clinical precision.

• Manage the complete editorial lifecycle for both print and digital publications.

• Collaborate with nursing subject matter experts, instructional designers, LMS personnel, project managers, marketing teams, internal staff, publishing partners, and vendors.

• Facilitate the dissemination of research and evidence-based resources through various communication channels.

• Monitor publication metrics and propose enhancements to the editorial process.

• Evaluate editorial technologies, publishing platforms, and workflow efficiencies.

• Implement ongoing quality improvement initiatives.

• Assist in formulating and managing publication budgets.

• Cultivate relationships with freelance editors, copyeditors, designers, printers, and production vendors.

• Assess vendor performance and ensure they meet contractual obligations.

• Produce books, toolkits, guidelines, position statements, educational materials, online learning content, and other publications.

• Supervise manuscript tracking from submission through to final publication.

• Ensure timely production while adhering to copyright, permissions, licensing, and intellectual property requirements.

• Guarantee that educational content aligns with principles of adult learning and health literacy to support practicing clinicians.

• Assist in quality assurance testing for digital learning products.

• Lead various publication projects, timelines, budgets, resources, milestones, and risk management strategies.

• Act as the primary editorial contact for volunteer authors, reviewers, editors, clinical experts, and internal staff.

• Advise authors on manuscript preparation, editorial standards, publication prerequisites, and learner-centered educational writing.

• Develop resources for authors and conduct workshops on educational writing, slide design, plain language, assessment writing, and editorial standards.

• Mentor authors and coordinate peer review and revision processes.

• Foster productive relationships with interdisciplinary contributors and external partners.

• Provide professional guidance and serve as an educational resource for new and current staff.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Publishing, Nursing, Health Sciences, or a related field (Required).

• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be accepted.

• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in editorial or publishing roles.

• Proven experience managing multiple publication projects from conception to production.

• Experience editing technical, scientific, healthcare, or educational materials.

• Experience in developing editorial standards or style guides.

• Familiarity with working alongside volunteer authors, editorial boards, or subject matter experts.

• Strong editorial judgment coupled with exceptional attention to detail.

• Advanced skills in copyediting and proofreading.

• Knowledge of publishing standards, copyright, permissions, and editorial ethics.

• Understanding of grammar, consistency, and instructional effectiveness.

• Capability to maintain consistency across educational products while acknowledging the unique writing requirements of clinician learners versus scholarly publications.

• Ability to uphold editorial calendars and publication timelines to meet organizational priorities and deadlines.

• Proficient in developing and maintaining editorial policies, procedures, templates, and style manuals.

• Experience in online learning and educational publishing is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with learning management systems and eLearning platforms is preferred.

• Experience within an association, nonprofit, academic, healthcare, or medical publishing context is preferred.

• Master's degree in communications, Publishing, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Preferred).
