This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee a remote team of finance professionals, comprising up to 7 Bookkeeping Specialists and Cloud Accountants, which includes involvement in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and performance management.
• Ensure effective client service delivery for a growing portfolio of growth-oriented clients across various industries in Canada, guaranteeing timely and high-quality execution of recurring responsibilities, such as monthly/quarterly management reports, sales invoicing, vendor payments, payroll coordination, and HST filings.
• Review year-end trial balances, supporting working papers, and financial statements prior to handing them off to AMLB's Tax team, who will finalize financial statements and prepare corporate and personal tax returns.
• Supervise and enhance the quality and timeliness of client communication, identify potential gaps, and provide coaching to team members on service excellence. Additionally, proactively alert the Director regarding any indications of scope expansion for pricing review.
• Stay updated on regulatory and technical accounting standard changes, such as CSRS 4200 and CSQM, and revise AMLB's client service standards and processes to address these changes, while also proactively monitoring compliance with these standards.
• Address payroll-related issues by coordinating with AMLB’s dedicated Payroll Lead and clients as necessary. While payroll execution is not within the scope of this role, ensuring satisfactory resolution of issues remains your responsibility.
• Assist in client advisory work, including leading ad hoc financial projects, especially when clients face operational or financial challenges that fall outside the current service scope.
• Collaborate with AMLB’s Tech & Operations Specialist to identify, recommend, and facilitate process improvements in client service workflows, internal documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Promote AI adoption within the team, utilizing tools such as ChatGPT Plus and supporting ongoing AI learning. You will be encouraged to explore and implement AI solutions that enhance internal efficiency and improve client service delivery.
• Provide training and mentoring to your team on both technical and non-technical subjects to boost performance, foster consistency, and encourage continuous learning.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a multi-client accounting environment, preferably within a cloud accounting business or virtual CFO practice.
• Direct experience in managing bookkeeping and accounting teams that support multiple clients simultaneously is essential, with a proven ability to lead diverse portfolios of early-stage or high-growth organizations across various sectors.
• Experience in client advisory work is a strong advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor remote teams of accounting professionals, including responsibilities for hiring, onboarding, performance coaching, and delivering both technical and soft-skills training.
• A collaborative and inclusive leadership approach is essential.
• Proven capability to manage multiple client relationships concurrently, with a focus on communication quality, oversight of deliverables, and consistency in service.
• Ability to identify early signs of client dissatisfaction or scope creep and escalate appropriately.
• Comfortable representing the business at a senior level during client interactions, including ad-hoc advisory engagements.
• Strong familiarity with cloud-based accounting tools and platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dext, WagePoint).
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, technology-enabled environment, with a capacity to adapt processes using digital tools.
• Prior experience with payroll oversight or coordination is beneficial, although execution is not required.
• Inquisitive and forward-thinking, with a desire to explore how tools like ChatGPT can enhance service delivery, internal workflows, and client outcomes.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial and operational concepts.

• A recognized accounting designation (CPA preferred) or equivalent experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
