This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design and implement the capacity procurement strategy for First and Middle Mile operations.
• Establish and nurture a competitive carrier network across all key lanes.
• Manage end-to-end carrier RFP processes, including design, bid evaluation, award decisions, and onboarding.
• Anticipate future capacity requirements based on volume forecasts and proactively secure dedicated capacity in advance of demand.
• Negotiate carrier agreements focusing on rate structures, fuel surcharge mechanisms, accessorials, volume commitments, service guarantees, and termination clauses.
• Cultivate and sustain senior-level strategic relationships with carriers, acting as the primary point of contact.
• Oversee carrier performance metrics related to cost, commitment, visibility, and reliability.
• Source, onboard, and ensure ongoing compliance for all carriers in collaboration with risk and compliance teams.
• Ensure that carriers adhere to safety and regulatory standards (DOT, FMCSA).
• Drive the adoption of digital visibility across the carrier network, including API integrations, ELD connectivity, and driver app tools.
• Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to deliver precise carrier capacity liquidity insights.
• Relay freight market conditions to internal stakeholders to guide pricing strategies, commitments, and client discussions.
• Identify and address capacity-related operational challenges and bottlenecks.
• Recognize and implement cost-saving initiatives through negotiation, lane consolidation, and capacity mix optimization.
• Over 5 years of experience in transportation procurement or carrier management.
• Solid understanding of first and middle mile linehaul operations.
• Proven track record in negotiating carrier contracts within fluctuating freight markets.
• Experience in forecasting capacity needs and managing seasonal fluctuations.
• Extensive knowledge of transportation management systems and carrier compliance platforms.
• Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
• Capability to translate freight market dynamics into commercial strategies.
• Excellent relationship-building skills with carriers and cross-functional teams.
• Additional compensation may include bonuses, equity, or commissions.
