Manager, AI – Diagnostics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead research on the AI diagnostics landscape, evaluating existing and emerging tools pertinent to low- and middle-income nations.

• Evaluate the technical readiness of prioritized diagnostics, encompassing training datasets, model architectures, sample sizes, and validation processes.

• Utilize disease-burden data to pinpoint high-burden conditions that currently lack effective AI diagnostics.

• Develop and sustain market intelligence that encompasses evidence, performance metrics, costs, and regulatory statuses.

• Conduct maturity assessments from proof-of-concept stages through to regulatory approval and scalable deployment.

• Prepare analyses, briefs, presentations, technical documentation, and recommendations for leadership, governmental partners, and donors.

• Create and maintain analytical tools and workflows using contemporary AI technologies to automate research and reporting tasks.

• Facilitate engagement with technology developers, research institutions, and partners concerning data and model inquiries.

• Assist in cost-effectiveness prioritization and ensure it remains current as the field progresses.

• Contribute to fundraising and donor relations, including proposal crafting and reporting obligations.

• Travel internationally 20–40% of the time, including occasional extended trips lasting multiple weeks.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the team lead or senior leadership.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combined with 4 to 8 years of relevant professional experience.

• Strong background in quantitative fields such as data science, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, economics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.

• Excellent quantitative skills and a solid understanding of fundamental machine learning concepts.

• Capability to evaluate the quality and representativeness of training data, model performance and architectures, sample sizes, and validation methods.

• Outstanding problem-solving and analytical abilities.

• Proficient in synthesizing complex technical and quantitative information for audiences without technical backgrounds.

• Familiarity with contemporary AI tools and platforms, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini.

• Willingness to employ modern AI coding tools for prototyping, automation, and the development of analytical tools.

• Possess an entrepreneurial mindset and comfort in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance, navigate uncertainty, and implement innovative approaches.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Willingness and ability to travel internationally 20–40% of the time, including occasional multi-week trips.

• Preferred: Graduate degree in a quantitative or health-related discipline.

• Preferred: Proficiency in Python, R, or other programming languages and familiarity with data-analysis or machine-learning workflows.

• Preferred: Experience working with large datasets, such as those from IHME, WHO, and other public data sources.

• Preferred: Hands-on experience with AI "vibe-coding" and automation tools.

• Preferred: Experience collaborating with governments, multilateral organizations, and/or in settings within LMICs.

• Preferred: Background in global health, public health, digital health, or applied research utilizing health data.

• Preferred: Proficiency in languages spoken in CHAI program countries.
