Major Gifts Engagement Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete process of the major donor newsletter, including the editorial calendar, story sourcing, writing, production, review cycle, and distribution.

• Collaborate closely with the Growth team and program staff across various causes to gather stories, outcomes, and data that align with the expectations of major donors.

• Uphold a consistent editorial voice that is concise, straightforward, and focused on gaps, adhering to GGC brand guidelines.

• Assist in creating a reusable content library filled with impactful stories, statistics, and imagery for major donor communications.

• Strategize and implement segmented email campaigns targeting specific segments of the non-portfolio major donor lists—based on program affinity, giving level, recency, tenure, and more.

• Compose and produce appeals tailored to specific cohorts, including year-end, mid-year, emergency response, and program-restricted campaigns.

• Manage GGC's moves management strategy to transition mid-level donors to portfolio donors overseen by Major Gifts Officers, defining the sequence of communications and interactions that elevate a donor to the next giving level.

• Perform prospect research for major gifts using the GGC CRM, leveraging intent signals and enrichment data from Wealth Engine and Dataro, as well as utilizing the Foundation Center for grant information.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, nonprofit management, or a related area; equivalent experience will be considered.

• At least 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit advancement, development communications, or a similar role, with a proven portfolio of major donor writing, including proposals, impact reports, donor correspondence, or related materials.

• Outstanding writing skills, capable of transforming complex program information and data into emotionally engaging, donor-focused narratives; ability to modify tone and style to reflect the voice of senior leadership and the organization.

• Experience in prospect research, including knowledge of wealth screening tools (WealthEngine, Dataro, iWave, or similar), philanthropic databases, and public records research.

• Previous involvement in grant proposals and reports is preferred; familiarity with foundation research tools (e.g., Foundation Directory Online, Candid, Instrumentl) is a plus.

• Strong research and analytical abilities; adept at synthesizing data from diverse sources into clear, actionable profiles and recommendations.

• Proficient in CRM systems (HubSpot preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and the ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects and deadlines.

• Ability to handle confidential donor information with discretion and professionalism.

• Experience in the animal welfare, environmental, humanitarian, or related nonprofit sectors is preferred.

• Proven track record of producing donor and grant materials that successfully lead to closed gifts and funded proposals.
