Major Gift Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors.

• Collaborate closely with the SVP of External Relations to create and execute strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and nurturing relationships with donors and prospects capable of contributing major gifts ranging from $10,000 to $1 million and beyond.

• Establish robust, long-lasting relationships with assigned donors who are dedicated to the organization’s mission.

• Regularly engage in communications with donors and prospects.

• Strategize, organize, and lead fundraising initiatives and campaigns targeted at major donors for the Convention of States.

• Cultivate and maintain a comprehensive understanding of COS priorities and operations.

• Monitor and report on progress using defined metrics.

• Manage all donor engagement activities utilizing COSA’s donor management system.

• Actively participate as a member of the External Relations team and engage with all staff through involvement in team meetings, events, and training.

• Travel 25-30% of the time to connect with donors.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in development or business.

• Preferred skills in sales, marketing, and finance.

• Excellent writing and presentation abilities.

• Willingness to travel 25-30% of the time.

• Self-motivated individual capable of working both collaboratively and independently as needed.

• Demonstrated success in fundraising, project management, sales, or political environments.

• Proficient in computer applications and programs such as MS Office, Google Suites, Slack/Zulip, Zoom/Meet, Salesforce, or other donor management systems.

• Capability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines while ensuring high-quality outcomes.

• Ability to learn, comprehend, and uphold current best practices in philanthropic giving.

• Must exhibit a high level of loyalty and trustworthiness, with a track record of handling sensitive information responsibly.
