Mainframe Migration Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate Control-M and/or Atomic schedules on the mainframe.

• Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and investigations of JCL jobs on the mainframe, which includes spool and SMF analysis.

• Assess CICS environments for loaded programs and their configurations.

• Utilize ISPF, GDG, PDS, and MFT in the examination of migration processes.

• Assist in the conversion of mainframe batch jobs (JCL) into PowerShell scripts for Azure.

• Aid in the configuration and automation of nightly, weekly, and monthly batch jobs within Azure.

• Enhance batch job performance, focusing on concurrency, multi-threading, and thread safety.

• Identify and document business requirements related to batch jobs.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to clarify technical and operational expectations.

• Create and maintain PowerShell modules, ensuring adherence to code signing and security protocols.

• Engage in daily standups, sprint planning, and troubleshooting sessions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including front-end, back-end, database, and mainframe specialists.

• Analyze, transform, and migrate legacy mainframe workloads to contemporary platforms such as Azure, distributed systems, or cloud-native architectures.

• Support mainframe modernization and rehosting initiatives, ensuring functional equivalence, performance stability, and minimal disruption.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Mainframe JCL.

• Highly skilled in mainframe job schedulers, particularly Control-M.

• Expert in mainframe CICS, especially with CA Ideal.

• Extensive experience in PowerShell scripting and automation within Azure.

• In-depth knowledge of mainframe batch job principles, including JCL, GDG, and PDS.

• Familiarity with C#/.NET, SQL Server, and Azure Storage.

• Understanding of thread safety, locking mechanisms, and concurrency in scripting.

• Experience in migration projects; mainframe-to-cloud transition experience is preferred.

• Capability to interpret and convert JCL scripts into PowerShell.

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

• Experience with Agile methodologies and working in cross-functional teams.

• Proficient in operationalizing batch jobs.
