Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, assess, and enhance machine learning solutions addressing real-world product challenges utilized by millions of users globally.

• Engage in projects involving recommender systems, personalized feeds, semantic search, sentiment analysis, NLP, LLM-driven applications, classical machine learning tasks, and potentially computer vision.

• Take ownership of ML challenges from inception to completion, including business problem analysis, data exploration, model selection, development, evaluation, and system integration.

• Create new ML solutions while improving and maintaining existing ones.

• Develop LLM-powered solutions and contribute to retrieval-augmented generation and contemporary NLP systems.

• Write efficient, maintainable, testable, and production-ready Python code.

• Work with substantial datasets using Python and SQL, establishing dependable data and model workflows.

• Rigorously assess models, choose relevant metrics, identify overfitting and data leakage, and evaluate modeling trade-offs.

• Collaborate with product managers, analysts, software engineers, and stakeholders to convert business requirements into ML problems.

• Determine the suitable level of solution complexity, ranging from heuristics and classical ML to deep learning, recommender systems, or LLM-based strategies.

• Keep abreast of advancements in machine learning and LLMs, applying beneficial techniques.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a Machine Learning or closely related engineering position.

• A Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or another pertinent technical or quantitative discipline.

• Strong foundational knowledge in supervised and unsupervised learning, model selection, feature engineering, regularization, validation, hyperparameter optimization, and evaluation methodologies.

• Familiarity with modern deep learning techniques and architectures, including transformers.

• Professional experience with LLMs and a solid understanding of transformer architecture, attention mechanisms, tokenization, context windows, inference, and fine-tuning.

• Knowledge of RAG systems, embeddings, retrieval, and evaluation methodologies.

• Proficient Python programming skills and adherence to production-quality software engineering practices.

• Experience with ML frameworks and libraries such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or similar tools.

• Practical SQL proficiency with experience handling large datasets independently.

• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized development environments.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.

• Ability to work autonomously, make informed technical decisions, and take ownership from problem definition to evaluation.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, analytics, and product teams.
