Loss Mitigation FHA Claims Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Timely and accurately prepare and file all HUD claims in accordance with investor, insurer, and CMS guidelines.

• Conduct semi-daily follow-ups on all pending claim proceeds.

• Execute a loan-level reconciliation for all final claim proceeds, ensuring alignment between the claimed amount, the paid amount, and the outstanding loan balance, including all escrow and corporate advances. Address errors by canceling claims or processing refund requests to HUD when necessary.

• Provide posting instructions for all claim proceeds within 24 hours of receiving the claim proceeds.

• Review, follow up, and ensure timely and accurate completion of all regularly scheduled steps.

• Record the completion date immediately upon the occurrence of an action.

• Secure approval and adjust the scheduled date to a future date if any step in the process cannot be completed as planned.

• Conduct routine daily follow-ups.

• Keep the Supervisor updated on trends and issues, including but not limited to claim denials, curtailments, and processing delays.

• Document all servicing actions, delays, follow-ups, and phone conversations in the system notes.

• Ensure timely imaging of all claim documents.

• Maintain and manage the HUD audit file.

• Carry out other assigned duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience; some college education is preferred.

• Preferred experience of one (1) to two (2) years in mortgage servicing default.

• Prior FHA claims experience is preferred.

• Knowledge of loss mitigation and claims processes.

• Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills; ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels both internally and externally.

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on teamwork and quality in loan evaluation.

• Capability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

• Ability to comprehend opposing viewpoints on complex issues and negotiate to integrate different perspectives for the benefit of CMS.

• Ability to make decisions that have a moderate impact on the immediate work unit.

• Proficiency in organizing and prioritizing work schedules on a short-term basis (longer than one month).

• Competence in basic arithmetic operations and ensuring accuracy in recording, balancing, and checking results.

• Skills to compose detailed reports, work-related manuals, and publications of limited scope or impact.

• Ability to manage workload to meet strict deadlines.
