This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +2 more states.
• Assist the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Credit Risk Management (OCRM) by conducting thorough evaluations of 7(a) and 504 loan files.
• Examine loan files throughout the origination, servicing, liquidation, and targeted partial review phases to evaluate adherence to SBA Loan Program Requirements.
• Assess loan documentation, pinpoint compliance issues or shortcomings, and document findings in organized work papers and loan file review reports.
• Inventory and assess loan files, extracting and analyzing data from SBA data systems and documentation provided by lenders.
• Identify exceptions that are either correctable or uncorrectable.
• Collaborate directly with SBA Lenders to clarify documentation, address preliminary deficiencies when feasible, and ensure lenders are aware of identified risks and requirements.
• Draft and prepare clear, well-supported written summaries along with both draft and final loan file review reports that detail conditions, criteria, causes, effects, and corrective actions for identified issues.
• Utilize a secure, web-based virtual data warehouse and workflow tracking system to oversee file reviews, maintain work papers, and facilitate status reporting.
• Comply with stringent quality, timeliness, documentation, and data security standards, which include the safeguarding of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and confidential business data.
• Aid in on-site or remote reviews, engage in quality assurance activities, and contribute to reports provided to the SBA.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and capable of obtaining and maintaining a federal Public Trust.
• Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of recent experience with SBA 7(a) and/or 504 loans (e.g., as a third-party reviewer, examiner, auditor, underwriter, loan closer, or liquidation specialist); alternatively, nine (9) years of relevant experience in place of a degree.
• At least three (3) years of experience managing teams and promoting staff professional growth.
• Proven ability to train new team members on technical topics and delivery expectations.
• Demonstrated experience in reviewing loan files for compliance, risk assessment, and adherence to regulatory and program requirements.
• Familiarity with SBA Loan Program Requirements, including 13 CFR Parts 103 and 120 and SBA SOPs concerning origination, servicing, liquidation, and lender oversight.
• Strong analytical capabilities to identify, document, and clearly articulate loan file deficiencies and associated risks.
• Experience in preparing detailed work papers, loan file review reports, and written summaries that substantiate defensible conclusions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with SBA personnel and SBA Lenders, including clarifying compliance issues and requirements.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the capacity to manage multiple file reviews concurrently while meeting deadlines.
• Proficiency in document management systems, workflow tracking tools, and standard Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
