Load Balancer / WAF Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and oversee cloud-based security solutions, encompassing WAF, DDoS mitigation, bot defense, and CDN setups.

• Create and manage tailored rules, including page rules, rate limits, transform rules, and iRules.

• Work in partnership with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to guarantee secure and resilient traffic flow to internet-facing assets.

• Enhance configurations for latency, performance, and availability, involving global traffic routing, failover strategies, and load balancing.

• Provide support for incident response during DDoS incidents or WAF bypass attempts.

• Document configurations and produce operational runbooks for client transitions or internal support teams.

• Perform WAF and edge security evaluations to pinpoint enhancements or misconfigurations.

• Aid in the migration from or integration with on-premises solutions such as F5, including translating custom logic to cloud WAF equivalents.

• Remain updated on the evolving behaviors of threat actors, industry DDoS tactics, and mitigation strategies.

• Deliver exceptional service to clients, internal stakeholders, and colleagues.

• Lead through influence and apply business acumen to align service delivery with business goals and priorities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2 to 4 years of experience in managing cloud WAF/DDoS platforms within enterprise settings.

• Extensive knowledge of Cloudflare and/or Akamai edge protection services.

• Proven experience in creating custom page rules, rate limiting policies, or traffic filtering logic.

• Strong understanding of essential networking principles such as TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, load balancing, NAT, and routing.

• Practical experience with on-premises application delivery controllers like F5 BIG-IP, particularly with iRules, SSL offloading, and WAF modules.

• Excellent troubleshooting abilities across application-layer traffic and network-layer protection.

• Open to adopting emerging technologies, including AI tools, to enhance efficiency, resolve challenges, and achieve improved business results.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and edge integration methods.

• Experience in automating WAF/DNS/DDoS configurations using API or Terraform.

• Relevant certifications in Cloudflare, Akamai, F5, or network security are preferred.

• Experience with API security measures, client fingerprinting, and bot mitigation tactics is preferred.

• Background in consulting, MSP, or client-facing roles is preferred.

• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

• Sedentary work environment.

• Significant wrist, hand, and/or finger movement required for a minimum of 8 hours daily.

• Close visual acuity necessary for viewing computer screens and extensive reading for a minimum of 8 hours daily.
