Linux Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Conduct system maintenance, apply patches, troubleshoot issues, and respond to incidents to guarantee the stability, performance, and reliability of the infrastructure.

• Recognize recurring operational challenges and enhance processes and tools.

• Design Identity and Access Management (IAM) workflows and assist in the integration of infrastructure with authentication, authorization, and security systems.

• Implement Linux security best practices, hardening standards, and compliance measures.

• Create scalable infrastructure stacks and enhance high availability, resilience, and recovery capacities.

• Advance Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, incident response, and operational methodologies.

• Introduce or enhance tools for incident management, troubleshooting, and operational visibility.

• Oversee medium-scale infrastructure projects that require collaboration across multiple teams, from technical planning and design to execution.

• Investigate, test, and deploy technologies that boost infrastructure resilience, efficiency, maintainability, and reliability.

• Offer technical mentorship to other engineers and contribute to documentation and standards development.

• Evaluate infrastructure performance and assist with security and compliance audits.

• Enhance Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) workflows and manage Kubernetes deployments along with supporting infrastructure.

• Establish alerting standards, enhance monitoring and observability, and create custom Prometheus exporters or other integrations.

• Design automation workflows and develop or refactor infrastructure automation using tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, and scripting languages.

• Minimum of 4 years of experience managing enterprise Linux environments.

• At least 2 years of experience with configuration management or infrastructure automation tools like Puppet or Ansible.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Proficient in Linux administration, troubleshooting, and system engineering.

• Experience in designing, developing, or refactoring automation using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages and REST APIs.

• Strong knowledge and practical experience with web servers and application servers such as Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, or related technologies.

• Experience in administering MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other SQL databases in production settings.

• Understanding of Linux security and hardening best practices, including SELinux, TLS certificates, cryptographic ciphers, and compliance standards.

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, including alerting and metrics-based troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of IAM concepts and infrastructure integration with authentication and authorization systems.

• Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and Kubernetes environments.

• Understanding of virtualization, networking, and infrastructure as code principles.

• Experience with Terraform or Proxmox is a plus.
