This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Cultivate relationships with Financial Advisors and internal stakeholders.
• Acquire skills to underwrite policies for Life, Disability, and/or Long-term Care insurance.
• Ensure that quality, service, and production objectives are achieved.
• Provide support and advice on case underwriting and risk assessment.
• Manage prescreen inquiries with appropriate guidance.
• Evaluate and assess insurance applications; approve, classify, or deny applications with oversight.
• Review applications and comply with underwriting standards, product types from Northwestern Mutual, and any changes.
• Develop knowledge in financial, medical, and lay underwriting assessments as well as reinsurance programs.
• Underwrite applications while adhering to mortality and morbidity expectations.
• Oversee cases and requirements while delivering tailored service with guidance.
• Communicate and negotiate with Field Partners regarding modified or declined decisions and policy placements.
• Gather necessary information through internet searches, digital health data, direct contact with insured individuals, and third-party advisors.
• Follow procedures and comply with regulatory processes.
• Resolve issues and escalations with appropriate guidance.
• Discuss cases with peer reviewers, medical professionals, and technical staff.
• Collaborate with Underwriting Support for efficient case management.
• Act as an underwriting representative for enhancements in product processes alongside functional partners.
• A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in rule application.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of managing confidential information with tact, diplomacy, and resourcefulness.
• Proficiency in computer skills and familiarity with various software applications.
• Ability to work accurately while maintaining speed and adaptability in both team and independent production settings.
• Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Competence in managing multiple tasks and adapting to a dynamic work environment.
