
Learning Engineer – Lab Schools Focus

• Provide support to 2 to 3 Lab Schools.
• Maintain relationships with each school's founding team throughout the 24-month partnership, featuring monthly leader check-ins, weekly build sessions, and on-call support during the launch phase.
• Collaborate with the Senior Learning Engineer in your region.
• Work closely with the Senior Learning Engineer to anchor the cohort, ensuring consistent technical support across your assigned schools while contributing to phase-by-phase programming.
• Develop customized AI tools in partnership with teachers and leaders, such as tailored assessment tools, lesson planners, student-facing builders, and family communication apps aligned with each school's pedagogical approach.
• Contribute to the Open-Source Playbook.
• Document builds, identify patterns from your schools, and provide insights for the playbook that will be released at the end of the 24 months.
• Conduct coaching sessions through drop-in office hours, asynchronous build support, and one-on-one video coaching with builders and leaders at your schools.
• Co-facilitate quarterly convenings.
• Participate in three-day sessions every quarter for 24 months, supporting build sessions and hosting office hours alongside the broader Lab Schools team.
• Enhance your skills through regular collaboration with senior Learning Engineers, build reviews, and ongoing mentorship from the Head of Learning Engineering.
• Contribute beyond the cohort as opportunities arise.
• Engage in adjacent partnerships, cross-team initiatives, or new projects that benefit from Learning Engineering expertise. We will establish expectations together to ensure that the lab schools remain the primary focus while allowing flexibility for a small, ambitious team.
• Share field insights with Playlab's product, engineering, and research teams to influence platform features and shared playbooks.
• Possess 3+ years of classroom, instructional coaching, or school-based experience, with a profound respect for the challenges of teaching.
• Have a proven history of delivering AI tools and a desire to advance to more complex designs (multi-step flows, evaluator loops, knowledge grounding, agentic design).
• Exhibit experience in supporting educators with both patience and high standards.
• Demonstrate strong asynchronous and remote-first instincts, capable of building trust through video and shared documentation.
• Be confident in prompting and AI application design, with an understanding of how teachers and students utilize AI in real classroom settings.
• Possess excellent documentation skills (build logs, walkthroughs, recorded sessions) that facilitate learning for others.
• Prioritize equity and access at the core of your work.
• Be prepared to commit to the full 24-month cohort schedule, including four quarterly three-day convenings.
